Ten Great Tips for Building Audience Trust

Ten Great Tips for Building Audience Trust

Blogging has become one of the most popular pastimes on the internet. However, it does not have to be simply a pastime. Many people and businesses are now using blogging as a way to earn money, advertise their service, and share their knowledge with millions of internet users. In order to maintain those users as regular readers of your blog, however, it is imperative that readers are able to trust you and the content on your blog. Below are ten ways that bloggers can build trust among readers of their blogs:

1. Update Regularly

If people are intrigued and entertained by your blog, they will return frequently. However, if they are returning frequently and find that you do not write new posts often, they will stop visiting your blog.

2. Respond to Comments Posted on Blog

When people comment on your blog, they want to know that you are paying attention to those comments. A response can be a great way to earn people’s trust, even a simple ‘thanks for commenting’ can help you maintain readership.

3. Comment on Other Blogs

Many readers of your blog will be bloggers themselves. If you follow and then comment on their posts, they are much more likely to trust you as a fellow interactive blogger.

4. Integrate Other Sources

While blogs are a largely written medium, the internet offers the capability for video, audio, and photos to be added to your blog with ease. By adding such content to your blog, your readers will be continuously engaged.

5. Ask for Feedback

If you ask your readers for feedback, they will feel as though they are a part of the process of your blog’s creation. This will help them to trust you as you continue to post and even take some of their suggestions into consideration.

6. Proofread

If your readers have to struggle through grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, and confusing writing, they will not stick around long. It also detracts from your credibility if you are obviously not putting effort into producing a quality project.

7. Useful Content

There needs to be a reason for people to visit your blog. This can be anything from being useful for a good laugh to offering objective information on an important topic, but it should have some sort of content that people will want to read and perhaps even need to read.

8. Varied Content

Even if your blog is about a specific topic, in order to maintain readership and for them to trust that you are as interested in the topic as they are, you must approach the topic from a variety of different angles. Reading the same type of information that is presented in the same way everyday will not inspire anyone to regularly turn to you as an authority on the topic.

9. Build a Real Follower Base

Most blogging platforms have an option for displaying followers. It is important that you publicly display followers to your readers, as this demonstrates that other people trust you, and so new readers will trust you. Building a follower base can be as simple as following others’ blogs yourself.

10. Be a Human

When you are writing, commenting, and following other blogs, act like a human. Do not send spam or obviously automated messages to your followers or regular readers. They will not trust you if you do this.

Blogging is a great way to share information and to earn money by doing so. By following the ten ideas above, your blog will be trusted by your followers and you will be able to build up your blog and your reputation as a blogger.

  1. Great advice on building trust! I try to use the 3 E’s when writing content on my blogs…that’s entertaining, enlightening, or educational. If it hits on any of these, there is a good chance my reader is going to trust me a bit more.
